Standing Up for Our Veterans

Throughout our nation's history, West Virginia's brave sons and daughters have left their homes prepared to fight and perhaps to die in foreign lands.  These men and women came from big cities and small towns, from college campuses, factories, farms, and mines. They fought so that our nation would remain free. They fought so that their children and ours could grow to be doctors, farmers, school teachers, and musicians. They answered the call of their country, and they did not fail it.

One of my highest honors as a U.S. Senator has been working to improve the quality of life for West Virginians who have served in the Armed Forces. To that end, my office provides a number of services for veterans and their families. In addition, I have worked on many initiatives important to West Virginia veterans, from expanding health care access to assisting with disability claims and helping veterans take advantage of available educational benefits.  In Washington, I have pressed for enactment of a number of important pieces of legislation aimed at benefiting veterans in West Virginia and across the country.

The links below lead to highlights of these services and initiatives:

I hope everyone will join in offering a prayer of thanks to the brave spirits who defended us with their lives, and offer their thoughts and their thanks to the men and women of today's military -- active, Guard, and reserves. May God bless all West Virginians who have fought and sacrificed to preserve our nation's freedom.
