Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government

-- Apprenticeship School at West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC):  $3 million has been requested for WVNCC, Weirton, West Virginia, to aid in the construction of an apprenticeship school at WVNCC.  A technical training center would position the College to provide training for the high-skill jobs that are critical to the region (due to the high unemployment that has resulted from the decline of the steel industry), and would be a valuable asset for economic developers in their efforts to attract new employers.

-- HOPE Community Development Corporation’s (HOPE CDC) Economic Development Initiative:  $2 million has been requested for the HOPE CDC, Charleston, West Virginia, to establish a variety of economic development programs including small business, housing, and employment training services in Charleston’s poorest community to aid in its transformation from a blighted, crime-riddled community into a safer community that promotes home ownership; business and workforce development; job training; and the health and wellness of its citizens.

-- Business and Economic Development in Mingo County, West Virginia:  $3 million has been requested for the Mingo County Redevelopment Authority for business and economic development activities along the King Coal Highway in Mingo County.
