-- West Virginia Route 9: $5 million has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the continued construction and improvements to Route 9 in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties in West Virginia.
-- Monongalia Health Systems Access Road: $3.5 million has been requested for Monongalia Health Systems, Morgantown, West Virginia, for the construction of an access road that will provide emergency vehicles, patients, visitors and staff direct access to the facility in Monongalia County in West Virginia. The current route to the hospital requires emergency vehicles to traverse through residential areas to access the emergency entrance.
-- Hardy County Complex Access Road: $1.5 million has been requested for the Hardy County Rural Development Authority, Moorefield, West Virginia, for the construction of an access road off of Corridor H to the West Virginia Eastern Community and Technical College and points beyond.
-- Appalachian Development Highway System Corridor H: $10 million has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the construction of this important and much needed highway in Randolph, Pendleton, Tucker, Grant, and Hardy Counties in West Virginia.
-- Coalfields Expressway: $5 million has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the continued construction of the Coalfields Expressway in Raleigh, Wyoming, and McDowell Counties in West Virginia.
-- King Coal Highway: $5 million has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the construction of the King Coal Highway in Mercer and Mingo Counties in West Virginia.
-- U.S. Route 35: $5 million has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the continued construction of U.S. Route 35 in Mason, Putnam, and Kanawha Counties in West Virginia.
-- Wetzel County Bridges: $400,000 has been requested for the West Virginia Division of Highways for the replacement of a bridge in the Town of Hundred in Wetzel County, West Virginia.
-- Constructed Facilities Center at West Virginia University: $500,000 has been requested for West Virginia University, Constructed Facilities Center, Morgantown, West Virginia, to continue development of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites for various transportation initiatives. FRP is non-corrosive, two times stronger and four times lighter than steel with at least twice the service life.
-- Appalachia Service Project: $2 million has been requested for the Appalachia Service Project (ASP), Johnson City, Tennessee, which operates in eight counties in Southern West Virginia, to provide free home repair to low income families. In 2008, more than 1,200 applications were received and ASP was only able to reach 10 percent of those needing services. Those 108 families were served by more than 3,500 volunteers. This request would enable ASP to expand its ability to provide free emergency home repair in Southern West Virginia.
-- Pocahontas County Multipurpose Community Center: $3 million has been requested for the Pocahontas County Commission for the construction of a Pocahontas County Multipurpose Community Center, Marlinton, West Virginia, which would promote the health and wellness of county residents, and provide youth and adult alcohol and drug prevention programs. Along with the prevention efforts, the center would offer alternatives to unhealthy behavior, such as: after school programs, senior fitness and wellness programs, junior law enforcement programs, health and fitness challenges, as well as art, drama, and music and dance classes. Recent statistics show that Pocahontas County ranks first in the State of West Virginia for the number of youth and adult drug-related arrests, first for the number of youth and adults in treatment for alcohol and/or substance abuse, and first in the rate of drug offenses known by law enforcement. The county ranked second in the state for youth alcohol use, with 32.8% of students in grades 8-11 drinking at least once a month.
-- Spencer-Ripley Armed Forces Reserve Center: $1.5 million has been requested for the Jackson County Commission to expand the drill hall and supporting facilities at the proposed Spencer-Ripley Armed Forces Reserve Center in Jackson County, West Virginia. The additional square footage at the center would provide much-needed multi-use space for the shared use by residents of the surrounding communities and Armed Forces personnel.
-- Hampshire County Special Services Center (HCSSC): $1 million has been requested for the HCSSC, Romney, West Virginia, for the acquisition of an additional facility. The center provides services and employment to individuals with developmental disabilities. This additional space would enable the center to expand the number of services provided, to meet the increasing demand within the area for those services, and to increase overall employment at the center. The center currently serves 65-75 people on a daily basis, and there is a waiting list of those in need of the services provided by the center. The expansion would more than double the number of individuals served. Services include life-skills training, job skills, vocational training, and other valuable skills needed for gainful employment and self sufficiency.
