-- Harpers Ferry National Historical Park: $1.1 million has been requested for the National Park Service for construction activities at the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for stabilization of historic structures within the park and for completion of repairs and upgrades to the fire alarm systems in 40-50 park buildings.

 

-- New River Gorge National River: $1.3 million has been requested for the National Park Service for construction activities at the New River Gorge National River, Glen Jean, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the continued development of Camp Brookside as a youth programs center and for the continued support of the New River Parkway Authority.

 

-- New River Gorge National River: $500,000 has been requested for the National Park Service for land acquisition at the New River Gorge National River, Glen Jean, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the acquisition of sites that would provide for additional recreational access and use of the park.

 

-- Gauley River National Recreation Area: $500,000 has been requested for the National Park Service for land acquisition at the Gauley River National Recreation Area, Glen Jean, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the acquisition of sites to provide for increased recreational access and use of the park.

 

-- Wheeling National Heritage Area Corporation: $350,000 has been requested for the Wheeling National Heritage Area Corporation, Wheeling, West Virginia, to help finance repairs to the historic Capitol Theatre.  The Theatre, which is part of the Wheeling Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, would help to spur new economic development in downtown Wheeling.

 

-- White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery (WSSNFH): $500,000 has been requested for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, for continuing the freshwater mussel research, recovery, and propagation program at this internationally recognized hatchery.  Mussels are an important ecosystem health indicator for rivers and streams, and the WSSNFH leads the Nation’s efforts in developing freshwater mussel propagation and culture technology for endangered species restoration.

 

-- White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery: $1.5 million has been requested for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for construction activities at the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the construction of wetlands and settling ponds.

 

-- Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge: $800,000 has been requested for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for construction activities at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, Williamstown, West Virginia.  The funds would be used for the construction of a ring dike around refuge buildings on Middle Island, as well as the installation of emergency pumps and a backup generator.  This flood protection is needed, as the refuge buildings are in imminent danger if a flood occurs.

 

-- Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge: $500,000 has been requested for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for construction activities at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Canaan Valley, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the construction of the Heart of the Highlands Trail.

 

-- National Conservation Training Center: $1.75 million has been requested for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for the National Conservation Training Center, Shepherdstown, West Virginia.  The funds would be used for addressing the backlog of maintenance and for upgrading equipment.

 

-- Leetown Science Center: $400,000 has been requested for the U.S. Geological Survey for continuing the molecular biology research and related projects at the Leetown Science Center in Jefferson County, West Virginia.

 

-- Monongahela National Forest: $595,000 has been requested for the U.S. Forest Service for facility improvements at the Monongahela National Forest, Elkins, West Virginia. 

 

-- Monongahela National Forest: $1.521 million has been requested for the U.S. Forest Service for road construction at the Monongahela National Forest, Elkins, West Virginia.

 

-- Monongahela National Forest: $3.15 million has been requested for the U.S. Forest Service for land acquisition at the Monongahela National Forest, Elkins, West Virginia.  Funds would be used for the acquisition of the high-priority Thunderstruck Property, which would add 272 acres to the western side of the forest.

 

-- Wood Education and Resource Center: $1 million has been requested for the U.S. Forest Service to support the continued operations of the Wood Education and Resource Center, Princeton, West Virginia.  The center facilitates interaction and information exchange with the forest products industry to enhance opportunities for sustained forest products production in the eastern hardwood forest region of the country.

 
-- Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission: $1.2 million has been requested for the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, Cincinnati, Ohio, to help finance upgrades to the Organics Detection System, which consists of fifteen units along the Ohio River that identify the types, levels, and sources of pollutants that are compromising the integrity of the river.  Five million individuals, including over 170,000 West Virginians, rely daily on the Ohio River for drinking water.  Those units are experiencing ever-increasing operational failures, putting public health at risk.

 

-- Town of Moorefield: $2.8 million has been requested for the Town of Moorefield to aid in the construction of a Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Moorefield, West Virginia.  The new regional plant would eliminate five small treatment plants, meet stringent effluent discharge requirements to better protect the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay, and protect 3,000 existing poultry processing jobs and 9,000 to 18,000 poultry-related jobs.

 

-- Marshall County Sewerage District: $800,000 has been requested for the Marshall County Sewerage District to aid in the construction of the Mozart Sewer Project in Marshall County, West Virginia.  This project supports the construction of new public sewage collection lines to 300 houses whose residents are under a public health threat as a result of failing septic systems.

 

-- Oakland Public Service District: $2 million has been requested for the Oakland Public Service District to aid in the construction of a new water tank and the refurbishment of two existing water tanks that serve approximately 750 houses in Hancock County, West Virginia.  The project also supports the extension of waterlines to over 140 new customers who currently have no access to a public water system.

 

-- Hancock County Public Service District: $2 million has been requested for the Hancock County Public Service District to aid in the construction of the Lincoln Highway Sewer Project in Hancock County, West Virginia.  This project supports the construction of 2.3 miles of wastewater collection lines to provide public sewage treatment for 232 new customers who currently have no access to a public sewer system.
