Senator Byrd

Leadership.      Character.      Commitment.

U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd

Martinsburg VA Medical Center

In the early 1970's, a need to replace the outdated Martinsburg Veterans Administration Medical Center was brought to my attention.  Subsequently, I made it a priority to address that need, and today, a 559-bed Center serves approximately 129,000 veterans throughout a twenty-three county region in parts of West Virginia, Western Maryland, South Central Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

By providing a wide array of medical, surgical, psychiatric, nursing home, specialty, and outpatient care services, as well as a domiciliary facility, this center addresses a comprehensive list of the medical needs of veterans.  Moreover, its close affiliation with West Virginia University Medical and Dental Schools and George Washington University, has enabled the Center to realize its vision to be the health care provider of choice in the region, exceeding expectations of care at competitive prices.
