Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center
Demonstration Project - Clarksburg VAMC and Ruby Memorial HospitalHaving to travel long distances to get specialized medical care can be especially burdensome for veterans and their families. Not only is the travel, at
times, taxing on veterans in poor health, but the expense of travel and of hotel stays can put added strain on a family already in the midst of a difficult, stressful situation. To assist veterans in receiving specialized
health care closer to home, I helped to launch and continue to help maintain a cooperative initiative involving the Clarksburg VA Medical Center and the West Virginia University School of Medicine/Ruby Memorial Hospital. This
initiative has greatly improved the access of veterans to a number of specialized services, particularly in the areas of ophthalmology and neurology by allowing West Virginia veterans to be treated in Morgantown, rather than forcing them to
travel out-of-state for care. |
