Insurance for Veterans Currently, there are a pair of regular and a pair of disabled insurance programs open for new policyholders. The Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance is open to active-duty members of the Armed Forces. Veterans' Group Life Insurance is open to those people released from active duty after August 1, 1974, and to reservists. The Service Disabled Insurance is available for those people with service-connected disabilities. The Veterans' Mortgage Life Insurance provides mortgage life insurance for those veterans granted specially adapted housing grants.
