Under this legislation, Medicare would administer the prescription drug benefit in the same manner as most private insurers primarily by contracting with private entities (e.g., pharmaceutical benefit managers, managed care plans, pharmacy coalitions) to administer the drug benefit. Entities would be chosen on the basis of cost and quality to ensure an efficient, reliable benefit. |
