Christine Martin

Christine Martin is interim dean, associate professor, and director of the writing program in the West Virginia University Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism.  She also chairs the school's news editorial sequence and coordinates the Honors Program.  She has won numerous awards for outstanding teaching, including the 1999 Freedom Forum Journalism Teacher of the Year.  She worked as a reporter, education writer, and news editor for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and the Uniontown Herald-Standard.  She is the recipient of two Freedom Forum Journalism Professors Publishing Grants -- one to complete the publication of a collection of biographies and oral histories of 16 women correspondents who covered the war in Vietnam; one to co-produce an hour-long documentary film on the same subject.  Martin holds a BA in English from California University in Pennsylvania, an MA in journalism from the University of Maryland, and is currently completing a Ph.D. in American Studies there.
